Toni Talks You Thru the Coastal Grandmother Lifestyle
Hello, and thanks for joining me to talk about the phenomena that is literally sweeping the internet, the Coastal Grandmother! I am a Coastal Grandmother and great grandmother. I am a former Image Consultant, Color Analyst and Makeup Artist, and yet, this new concept has literally changed my life! I bet it will change yours too, and it’s fresh, fun and exciting! So, what is it and how do you get it?
What is "Coastal Grandmother"?
The term “Coastal Grandmother” was introduced on Tic Tok by Lex Nicelota. It encompasses a lifestyle that is timeless and classic, yet comfortable and relaxed. It is a feeling and a mood as well as a look. Think Nancy Meyers movies like Diane Keaton in “Something’s Gotta Give”. The quintessential New England woman who embodies grace and style, but is effortlessly classy without following trends and fads. It’s why her daughter and granddaughter want to emulate her. They don’t have time, money or space to “hit and miss”, and this concept saves them on all three.
Today, we are going to talk about the Coastal Grandmother wardrobe. It is essentially capsule dressing, which means building your wardrobe around ocean and beach inspired neutrals in fine fabrics like linen, cotton and cashmere. There are two basic elements you need to know about yourself before you are ready to start pulling your Coastal Grandmother wardrobe together.
What Season Are You?
What “season” are you? Yep, “Color Me Beautiful” is alive and well and it’s making a comeback, why?, because it works. I am a “Winter”, my husband, a "Summer", and we had a “ Spring” daughter with strawberry blond/red hair and blue eyes! When she started kindergarten, I never liked her little school pictures, and I couldn’t figure out why - she was beautiful. When I took my color analysis training, a lightbulb went off. I was dressing her in my bold “Winter” colors, which totally overpowered her. Poor little thing! When I started buying her clothes in her “Spring” colors, peach, aqua and yellow, her photos were beautiful! It works, and the older you get, the more important it is. So, what colors look best on you, bringing out your natural coloring even with minimal makeup. I hope you will go to my blog, “tonitalksyouthru.com”, and take the color quiz.
What is Your Personal Style?
The second thing you need to know is your personal style. You may say, “I don’t have one”.
You do, you may just not know what it is yet! Again, please go to my blog “tonitalksyouthru.com”and take the quiz on personal style. It’s what differentiates us so we’re not all walking around in turtle necks and bucket hats, which is fine if you are a Classic Sporty/Natural like Diane Keaton! I am a Classic/Dramatic. I had classic down pat when I worked, but since I retired, I had pretty much let go of my classic style and was knee deep in dramatic. When I cleaned out my closet, out went all the animal prints (well, almost all) and anything “bedazzled”. That’s why I love the Coastal Grandmother - it brought me back to basics! I chose pure white and stone, which is a greyed beige , for my neutrals because it is better next to my skin tone than a yellow beige like khaki, which works well for a warm season like “Spring" or “Autumn”.
Getting Your Coastal Grandmother Look
Once you nail down these two elements, (and I will talk you through it), you will be ready to start pulling those pieces in your wardrobe that work, and I bet there will be more than you think, and letting go of those that don’t work. You wouldn’t believe what I gave away, but It’s the most freeing thing I’ve done in years! I felt organized, I had a plan! It is so much easier to get dressed now and to feel good in my clothes.
In the upcoming weeks, on my blog, “tonitalksyouthru.com” I will be covering topics, like how to clean out your closet, specific pieces that make up the Coastal Grandmother wardrobe, as well as makeup, hair styles and even decorating styles for the Coastal Grandmother, so follow me on “tonitalksyouthru.com” - and remember, you don’t have to live on the coast or be a grandmother to love this concept. So, enjoy your own journey toward embracing this remarkable lifestyle!
