Are you excited yet? The problem with designer shows is the fashion trends are always extreme! If we coastal grandmothers actually showed up in one of these outfits, our children would have us committed! So, how do they translate into everyday wear?

Unless you are a celebrity with an unlimited budget, I have repeatedly advised building your wardrobe around the neutrals for your Season and in your Personal Style. You can add trendy pieces in small amounts. The designers have to come out with new ideas every season to keep us excited about buying new clothes!

Colors for Spring

The colors for Spring of 2024 are red, peach, sky blue, burgundy and lots of white dresses. The good news is every season gets some shade of red so most of us could add a piece in our shade of red. The new “peach fuzz” is very dusky and muted and is strictly for “Autumns”. If the rest of us seasons tried to wear it, we would look like we had had the stomach flu for a week! Sky blue, by definition, is a “Summer” color. Winters could get away with it, as well as Springs, as long as it is clear. Autumns, not a good choice. The designers are showing lots of burgundy (mostly leather). Sorry, even though burgundy is a “Winter” color, I will definitely not be wearing it for summer (pick your poison)!

Nothing is prettier than a white summer dress, and I will probably buy one if I find one in my style. It most certainly will not be a “sheer, bra, mini” like they are showing on the runways! The only person I know who could get away with that is my 20 year old, size two, granddaughter who would look adorable in it. Many of the dresses are “Romantic”, but you will find them in every style! Yes, pure white is technically only for “Winters”, but most Seasons can get away with it in summer with a tan (real or fake) and the right makeup for their “Season”.

Note: White summer dresses are being shown in every style. This style is more dramatic because of the cut and length, so as a Classic Dramatic, naturally it appeals to me!

Stripes are in for Spring of 2024, so you will see them in everything from shirts and pants to dresses and jackets! Again, you will have your pick. Dark navy or black and white, as well as red and white for “Winters”, denim, soft navy or sky blue with off white for “Summers”, khaki or clear brown, as well as clear navy with cream, for “Springs”, and olive or khaki, as well as brown, with cream, for “Autumns”.

The”sailor” inspired look is being shown for 2024 in pants with buttons on each side. The problem with this trend is, you should have a completely flat tummy to wear them, which leaves a lot of us out of the picture (a whole lot of us!).I saw a newscaster wearing them this week. Let’s just say, if I were dressing her, I would have chosen a more flattering style for her.

Note: The majority of us are going to need to just let this trend pass!

Ballet flats and Mary Janes will abound this Spring/Summer! The good news is, you probably have some already hiding in your closet, and, if they are animal print, you’re right on trend!

I am really excited that trench coats are showing up on the runways for Spring. This means they will be readily available in all styles and colors! I desperately need to replace my 25 year old trench coat, and I have already seen several in Winter’s greige (gray beige).
